Here we are at the top. Over our shoulders on the right side you can see the “pyramid of the moon” in the background.
After a sizeable rest atop the pyramid, we began our decent back to earth. This shot shows the grade of the stairs that were cut into the sides of the structure. Fortunately, everyone was sure-footed on the way down.

Keepin' Busy

Well, after a week off from working with the team visiting from North Carolina, Amy, Caleb and I had the chance to assist with another vacation bible school that began on Monday and will continue through Friday. The planning for this VBS began several weeks ago and since this was the first time these activities were being held in a new area of the city, we were unsure as to the turn-out we could expect from this community. On Monday we had a great first day crowd of approximately 30 children! This number has continued to grow over the previous two days leaving us with nearly double our original number at the close of today’s (Wed.) gathering. This has been a great encouragement to all of those working to pull off this week of events.
All of the stories, crafts and games for this week have been built around different “Veggie Tales” themes. In the first picture, if you look closely you can barely make out the swinging “slingshots”(made of pantyhose) attached to the two participant’s heads. Acting out the story of David and Goliath has certainly made the retelling of this historic event more than memorable.
Here are a few more snapshots of a few of the kids enjoying their afternoons.
At the end of today we had just wrapped up the final video clip when the wind picked up and peals of thunder could be heard everywhere. Fortunately, we had just enough time to dismiss the kids before the downpour began. We’re still firmly in the middle of the rainy season down here but this hasn’t hampered attendance from the children or dampened the enthusiasm of the team.
